About our finish carpentry work

What Cedar Sun does on a finish carpentry project.

Finish carpentry is what people actually see when they walk through a finished room. We take it seriously. Our finish scope covers baseboard, casing, and crown molding installations across new construction and remodels; custom built-ins for living rooms, offices, and reading nooks; wainscoting, board-and-batten, shiplap, and other paneling treatments; coffered and tray ceilings; custom interior doors and door trim; closet build-outs with custom shelving; and wood paneled accent walls. Most of our finish carpentry happens at the back end of remodels and new construction projects we're already running, but we also take on stand-alone finish jobs for clients who already have a finished house and want to upgrade the trim work or add a built-in.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about finish carpentry.

Can you match existing trim profiles?

Yes. For older homes with custom trim that's no longer stocked, we can have profiles custom-milled or build them up from stock components.

Do you do paint-grade or stain-grade?

Both. Paint-grade work uses MDF or finger-jointed pine and gets primed and painted on site. Stain-grade uses solid hardwood (oak, walnut, maple) and gets sanded, stained, and finished by hand.

How long does a built-in take?

A typical wall-to-wall built-in (lower cabinets, upper shelving, paneling between) takes 1 to 2 weeks including paint or stain finish.

Can you build paneled accent walls?

Yes. Board-and-batten, shiplap, picture-frame molding, and slat walls are all common requests. We size the layout to the wall, install over drywall with proper backing, and finish on site.
